STONE FLOWERS is my 11th album as a (co-)leader. Sonically inspired by A.C. Jobim’s album „Stone Flower“ (1970), this is contemporary (jazz) music in the spirit of the early 1970s, written for a bass-less quartet in which three musicians share bass duties, with me doubling on Fender Rhodes and Mini Moog.
I was drawn to the band name „Stone Flowers“ because of its inherent friction - both words are rooted in nature, but point to opposites between hard and tender. The majority of compositional principles I used on this album also derives from natural laws and processes.
